The Chiltern Hills

The Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) stretches from the River Thames in Oxfordshire up through Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire to Hitchin in Hertfordshire. It was designated as an AONB in 1965 in recognition that the Chilterns countryside is amongst the finest in the UK. It is a fantastic area to enjoy with a dense network of footpaths making it easy to go for a gentle stroll or a longer walk. You can explore rolling farmland, tranquil valleys, beautiful woods carpeted with bluebells in spring and enjoy some breathtaking views from the hilltops. There are lots of promoted walking and cycling routes and many nature reserves and countryside sites to visit.
